Shrishti Art Gallery is organising an exhibition of untitled paintings by Sanjay Ashtaputre, from 22nd February to 4th March. The works are all bound by a single theme - a woman with a bird. The woman is expressing her myriad moods to the silent bird.
A mélange of vibrant hues and soft shades that complement the fluid forms, the images capture the onlooker. Sanjay, who was shattered by the sudden demise of his young son, has confined himself to dark subjects and noir themes for the past few years, and for the first time has returned to celebrating life. His recent exhibition "Romance With Charcoal", held during December 2007, at the Hasta Art Gallery, received highly encouraging response, which helped him to research the myriad moods of women.
Born in 1957 in Nanded, Sanjay graduated from the Government School of Art, Aurangabad. Known for his paintings, drawings, murals and sculpture, he has been exhibiting his works at various exhibitions since 1974, such as Vasant Bhavan, Aurangabad; Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai; Heritage Art Gallery, Chennai; Gallery Aurobindo, New Delhi; Bal Gandharva Art Gallery, Pune; Karnataka Chitrakala Parishad, Bangalore; Birla Academy of Art & Culture, Kolkata; and Hotel Green Park and Shrishti Art Gallery, Hyderabad.
He has been honored with the Nasik Kala Niketan Award in 1976, the Camlin Award in 1977, the All-India Art Exhibition Award in Hyderabad during 1983, and other awards.
