Based on the true life story of Bernie Baatjies, played by Clint Brink, Dollars And White Pipes takes us on an emotional rags-to-riches journey. Bernie dreams of becoming rich and famous like his idol J R Ewing from Dallas, and of owning a convertible, but he lives in an apartment on the Cape, and is confronted with gangsterism, drugs and poverty.
One night, he watches his friend die in a gang fight. This marks the beginning of his journey out into the city. Bernie scams his way into working at a club where he finds favour with the owner (Jonathan Piennar), who is also named Bernard. He works himself up and climbs the ladder of success from bar hand to manager.
However, this new life he lives comes to a halt when the owner shoots the right hand man of Mr. Kuyser (Kevin Smith), a gangster who heads the brotherhood. Bernie soon realizes he has to toughen if he wants to survive.
