PREVIEW FOR DAKSHIN BHOJANOTSAV
If some of the best meals you've had are on banana leaves with lots of steam and ghee, then here's bonanza time! For, it's all of South India at one place!

The Taj Tristar, a restaurant at Secunderabad, is organizing a food festival of four southern states called Dakshin Bhojanotsav. The festival is aimed at reminding you of taste and flavors of home. Forty-six dishes including pickles and papads will be made available during the festival, and while the salads and ice creams are common, the other items on the menu will change everyday.

Sadhya, the 2-day Kerala food festival (August 16-17), will mark the beginning of the festival. Special items like Thoran and Mizhukku Puratti (vegetable fry) and the famous Aviyal will form part of the menu. In the rice section, steamed rice and Malabar biryani will be served, and the traditional payasam will form part of the sweets section.

Vindu, the 3-day Andhra festival (August 19-21), will offer Avakai, Pappu Charu, Dondakai Vepudu and the exotic Zaffrani Pulav. Apart from Vadiyalu (3 kinds) and an array of pickles, a mix of Hyderabadi Qubani Ka Meetha, Andhra Bandar Laddu and Ariselu will be served as dessert.

Virundu, the 3-day Tamil Nadu food festival (August 22-24), will see Paruppuusli (a dry preparation where the vegetable of choice is cooked in a mixture of ground and fried dal), a whole range of rice dishes including the ubiquitous Thair Sadam (curd rice), Vangi Bath (brinjal rice) and Takali Sadam (tomato rice) as specials. Desserts include Tirunelveli Halwa and Sweet Pongal.

Authana, the 2-day Karnataka food festival (August 24-25), will offer Bisi-Baale-Bath and Syamagadde Sambaru as special items. The sweets menu will have the famous Mysore Pak as a special item.

Each of the food festivals mentioned will feature common items like Appams, Pootu (Sadhya - Kerala), Ragi Mudde, Set Dosa (Authana - Karnataka) and Adai (Virundu - Tamil Nadu). The festival is on for buffet dinner between 7 pm and 11 pm, and costs Rs 135 per head.
