In the days when movies looked like comedies only when they were intended to,
there strode a colossus in the Telugu film industry. He still rules several minds,
as this event proves.
At a time when comedy formed only a part of a film, Jandhyala ventured into making full-length comedies with newcomers. He took expressions, events and phrases from normal life and made them a part of film language. And his movies became money-spinners at the box office.
The Department of Culture and Kinnera Art Theaters are jointly organizing a 3-day event of comedy plays in memory of veteran film writer and director Jandhyala. During the program, plays written and directed by Jandhyala will be staged. Comedians and artists from the Telugu film industry will come together to lend their support, under the leadership of noted comedian and Movie Artists' Association Secretary A V Subramaniam (AVS). The evenings will see some rib tickling comedy plays.
