The Movie Artists Association (MAA) is organizing a cine stars' cricket match
on December 1 and a star nite show on December 2, to raise funds to help the poor
artists in the Telugu film industry. The reason is what veteran actor and Managing
Director of MAA Murali Mohan said in a recent press function: most artists now
don't get enough work to support themselves or their families, unlike in the olden
days. The work in the film industry has considerably reduced now. In the earlier
days the number of films made was low and therefore the number of artists was
also low. Currently, in spite of more films there is not enough work for junior
artists. And with old age coupled with non-availability of work, a lot of artists
are living in pathetic conditions, suffering dire poverty.
In order to help such people, the MAA has decided to organize two shows to invoke funds. A cricket match on the first day (December 1) will see top heroes Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna, Nagarjuna, Venkatesh, Tarun, Uday Kiran and other character artists and comedians like Shivaji, Venkat, the Paruchuri brothers, Raghunatha Reddy, AVS, Sunil, Sudhakar, Ali, Shivaji Raja, Jeevitha, Sarada, Delhi Rajeshwari, Siva Parvathi, Siva Krishna and Navabharat Balaji taking part. And on December 2, heroes, heroines and comedians will take part in entertainment programs.
The proceeds of these two shows will be utilized as pension for poor artists.
