PREVIEW FOR CHILDREN'S FILM APPRECIATION MOVIE - NANDAN (HINDI)
The Children's Film Society, in association with the Department Of Information
& Public Relations and the Department Of Education, is organizing a screening
of Nandan, as part of its monthly film appreciation programs.
Nandan is a spirited, energetic and active 12-year-old boy from a middle class family. His mischief gets him into trouble with his parents. The internal conflicts of his trapped, rebellious young mind sometimes lead him into rash adventures.
Once, his yearning for a fascinating toy car in a shop sets him off on a dangerous course. He steals money from his father to buy the toy. While waiting for the delivery of the car, Nandan witnesses the various masks the trading community wears - facetious, manipulative, aggressive, speculative, deceptive and exploitative. They push him gradually into an uncomfortable situation that ultimately leads him to the police station.
Nandan carries with it tinges of sorrow and pathos. Although the boy loses his objective, he is enriched with an intangible insight and sensibility in the form of courage, conviction and concentration.
