Kalasagaram, on the occasion of its 39th Annual Cultural Festival Of Music, Dance And Drama from 24th November to 3rd December, is organising a Carnatic vocal recital by Madurai T N Seshagopalan today, the 3rd day, at Bhagyalakshmi Kalabhavan in the Keyes Girls' High School. Seshagopalan will be supported by Bangalore H K Venkatram on the violin, Thanjavur K Murugabhoopathy on the mridangam and Chennai Sundar Kumar on the ghatam.
Seshagopalan is a popular artiste known for his chaste classicism in Carnatic music. Blesed with a rich voice and remarkable creativity, he has combined the best aspects of the great stalwarts of the past in the field of Carnatic music, and has created his own style and fans. His rendition of Kritis and elaborate Swaraprastharas, in particular, have received huge appreciation from his peers, the press, and music lovers all over the world.
Trained under Ramanathapuram C S Sankarasivan, Seshagopalan is a multi-faceted vocal artiste. He is also a specialist veena performer in the Gayaki style, besides playing harmonium and the keyboards. In recent years, he has also been giving musical discourses in the Harikatha style. He has performed all over the country and in many parts of the world, having bagged innumerous titles and awards, like Sangeeta Choodamani, Kalaimamani, Sangeeta Kalasagaram, the Central Sangeetha Nataka Akademy Award and the Padma Bhushan by the Govt. of India, to name a few.
Kalasagaram is a South-Indian cultural association situated in the East Nehru Nagar of East Marredpally, and has been organising Carnatic music concerts for more than 35 years. The concerts are always held in the Keyes High School campus in the open-air theater. The singers are generally from outside Hyderabad, usually amateurs and upcoming artistes, and quite competent. Kalasagaram also occasionally stages South-Indian classical dances and Tamil plays.
