Nada Tarangam Trust is presenting its 2nd Annual Gokulastami Music Festival from 15th to 21st August, at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan auditorium, King Koti. The 7-day music festival will feature renowned Carnatic musicians like Neyveli R Santhanagopalan, U P Raju and Nagamani, Shreyas Narayanan, T V Shankara Narayanan, D Srinivas, Sanjay Subrahmanyan and Unnikrishnan in concert.

Today, the 4th day, T V Sankaranarayanan will present a Carnatic vocal recital, with instrumental support from Nagai Sriram on the violin and Srimushnum Raja Rao on the mridangam. A popular Carnatic vocalist, T V Sankaranarayanan was born into a musical family in 1945 in Mayavaram. His maternal uncle was the legendary vocalist Madurai Mani Iyer. TVS got his training from his father T S Vembu Ayyar and Madurai Mani Iyer.

TVS started singing with his father was he was 15. He was initially set to become a lawyer and even enrolled in the Madras High Court as an advocate in 1967. But he finally decided to become a musician, and started giving concerts in 1968. He hasn't looked back since then, and has been one of the most sought-after concert artistes.

TVS owes his popularity to the style developed by his guru and uncle. His enthusiasm and zest even now, after so many years on stage, is enthalling. He usually sings krithis which were the favorite of Madurai Mani Iyer. His intricate and interesting swara patterns are his strength. He has received several awards in his long career, including the Padma Bhushan from the Govt. of India and the prestigious title of Sangeetha Kalanidhi in 2003.

Nada Tarangam Trust was started on 16th August, 2005, by a renowned mridangam, ghatam and jaltarang artiste Nemani Somayajulu. Somayajulu is a senior artiste who has done his diploma in mridangam from the M R College For Music, Vizianagaram, in 1972, and has since accompanied many music vidhwans like Dr. Managalampally Bala Muralikrishna, Dr. Nookala Chinna Satyanarayana, Dr. Nedunuri Krishna Murthy, Dr. Chitti Babu, Dr. L Subrahmanyam, Dwaram Durgaprasad, the Malladi Brothers and Veena D Srinivas, to various parts of India. He has also presented a fusion concert of Jaltarang with mridangist Umalaypuram Sivaraman in the USA. He is probably the only male jaltarang player of Carnatic music in the world.
