Shilparamam, as part of its weekly program of classical music, is presenting a devotional vocal concert by Seshubai, this Saturday. Seshubai will be supported by her daughter Tadoori Anuradha with the vocals, Radhakrishna on the mridangam and Anil Kumar on the violin.
Seshubai will start the recital with a Ganesh prarthana, followed by Annamacharya's Alarulu Kuriyaga in Kamaas raagam, Paluku Tenela Talli in Bilahari, Chalada Brahmamidhi in Tilang and Okapari Oka Pari in Bahudaari; and Jaideva's Ashtapadis like Rasehari Mihira in Maandu, Lalitha Lavanga in Kalyani and Chandana Charchita in Kasi raagam. The music for all these keertanas have been composed by Seshubai herself.
Koduganti Seshubai is a 70-year-old veteran who learned Carnatic vocal initially from her grandfather K Ramadas Panthulu and mother Udayagiri Satyatamma, and thereafter from Nookala Chinna Satyanarayana in Vizag. After her marriage to Koduganti Satyanarayana Murthy, she had to shift to Jamshedpur, where she lost exposure to music. Realising this, her husband decided to relocate to Hyderabad, leaving behind his seniority and promotions on the job front, in 1961.
In Hyderabad, Seshubai learned under Neti Srirama Sarma and started concentrating on music. She has given many performances at Bhadrachalam, Tirupati, Nizamabad, Sirpur Kagaznagar, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Machilipatnam, Bandar, Bhubaneshwar and Jamshedpur. Currently, she teaches students, both young and old, at her residence in Mehdipatnam, and also coaches music aspirants for their diploma examinations.
