Shilparamam is presenting a Carnatic vocal recital by Sudha, Madhuri, Harsha, Sinduja, Subbamma, Mythili and Pavana Kumar, on 26th December, as part of the ongoing All-India Crafts Mela. The vocalists are all disciples of Tadepally Subbalakshmi, and will be accompanied by Ravikanth on the tabla and Dattatreya on the flute.
The evening starts with a recital of Javadeva Ashtapadi - Shrita Kamala Kucha Mandali in Charukesi ragam - followed by Annamayya's Narayanathe Namo Namo in Behag ragam, Atchutananda Swamy's Rama Hare Sri Rama Hare in Siva Ranjani, Charanamule Nammithini in Kapi and Garimella Balakrishna Prasad's Pahi Pahi Rama Dhoota in Hindola ragas, Adi Shankaracharya's Annapurna Ashtakam, and other keertanas.
Tadepally Subbalakshmi is a lecturer at Sri Thyagaraja Government College of Music, Ramkote. She did her diploma in violin from Vijayawada Music College in the year 1968, and earned a Gurukulam certificate in Carnatic vocal under Pochepally Prakash Rao. She started her career as a violin instructor at the Bal Bhavan, Hyderabad, where she worked from 1985 till 1992, when she joined the music college at Ramkote as an Assistant Lecturer.
She has accompanied various Kuchipudi dancers like Alekhya, Shobha Naidu and Vasireddy Kanaka Durga to various countries in the Gulf, and like Syria, Lebanon, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and South Africa, under ICCR. She, along with her husband T Uma Shankar, a violinist, teaches Carnatic vocal and violin to various upcoming artistes at home.
