The South Indian Cultural Association (SICA) is organizing a 5-day golden jubilee festival of music concerts from the 15th to the 19th of this month. As part of this, it has roped in renowned vocalists and instrumentalists including A Kanya Kumari (violin), T V Sankaranarayanan (vocal), Neyveli Santhanagopalan (vocal), and Rajhesh Vaidhya (veena). Bombay Jayasri will be presenting a Carnatic vocal concert this evening, at the Ravindra Bharathi.
Jayasri Ramnath, popularly known as Bombay Jayasri, belongs to the 4th generation of music practitioners in her family, and has learnt from none other than Lalgudi G Jayaraman and T R Balamani. She has won a number of awards ranging from the Sangeetha Choodamani to the Nadabhooshanam. She was the first Carnatic classical performer in the Opera House in Durban and the Russian Opera House in Helsinki, Finland. She also won the Filmfare award for composing music for Vaseegara.
