Nope. This isn't about Mr. Bachchan, but Mr. Premchan(d)! The English drama version of the latter's celebrated Hindi short-story Bade Bhai Saheb is out overcome the audience with bouts of unstoppable laughter. Here are a few nuggets from the play:
Do not go outside, it is very nighty. I am ‘well’ but my brother is ‘in well’. ‘Knife’ without ‘K’ is like Chaku without Cha, only Ku, Churi without Chu, only Ri.The makers claim that the play is a comedy, but not the usual hilarious, rip-roaring, rib-tickling kind, but the 'Hillaryious', 'rib-roaring' and 'rip-tickling' one.
The story is about two English-educated-Hindi-speaking brothers - the studious Kamta Prasad and the sporty Samta Prasad. The play therefore revolves around History & Hockey, Geography & Gilli Danda and Chemistry & Cricket. And also Rekha Ganit - Kamta’s favorite … as Rekha is his heart-throb and the daughter of Ganit teacher. So also Algebra, defined by Samta as “a subject on which even Allah has no Jabr.
The 1 ½ hour play was originally written by Munshi Premchand and scripted and directed by Dr. M Sayeed Alam and Niti Sayeed.
