REVIEW FOR BHARATANATYAM PERFORMANCE BY HIMA BINDU
Guru V S Rama Murthy and his daughter Manjula Ramaswamy, known for creating child
prodigies by identifying talented youngsters and teaching them the finer nuances
of dance and music, presented yet another budding dancer, Hima Bindu. The teenager
has already given over 200 performances in her gurus' productions, and has been
into dance for the past ten years.
Her present solo recital was bubbling, bright and fresh. For the veteran artists like Nataraja Rama Krishna and Alekhya among the audience, the young dancer commenced with an elaborate dance of floral offering, 'Pushpanjali'. The Ragamalika Vinayaka Stuti that followed was attributed to the varied moods and attitudes of the benign god Ganesha. Depicting the heavy yet graceful dance of Ganesha, Hima Bindu proceeded with an ornate Varnam "Ninu Choochi Valachi Vachitini", where the mood changes into a romantic sequence with illustrations of a classical couple, their desires and dalliances.
With perfect and pure dance interludes supported by the syllables and cymbals of Manjula Ramaswamy and with songs by Prema Ramamurthy, the dancer framed her recital with a Tillana. The performance was staged under the banner of Sri Rama Nataka Kala Niketan of guru Rama Murthy.
