REVIEW FOR BHADRACHALA RAMADASAR - HARIKATHA BY VISAKHA HARI
The Sri Rama Navami Cultural Festival Committee is organising its annual Sri Rama Navami Cultural Festival on 5th & 6th June, at Keyes Girls High School. The 2-day festival will have 2 harikathas by the famed harikatha exponent Visakha Hari from Chennai.
On the first day, Visakha Hari will present a harikatha on Bhadrachala Ramadasar. Ramadas was an ardent devotee of Lord Rama, who went on to build one of the best known temples of Rama, in Bhadrachalam.
Visakha Hari is a disciple of Padma Bhushan Lalgudi Jayaraman. She is a recipient of the Central Government Scholarship for classical vocal. Hari is the daughter-in-law of Krishnaprem Swamigal of Srirangam, Tamil Nadu. She was good at academics, too, having secured a state rank (in the subject of Commerce) in school, and an all-India rank in Chartered Accountancy.
An exponent of the harikatha style of musical discourses and an A-grade artiste of the All India Radio, she has performed not only in most places of India, but also in Singapore, Dubai and Muscat. She has won several prizes, including gold medals and tambura prizes.
The Sri Rama Navami Cultural Festival Committee was founded in 1961 by late Srirama Subasri, a railway employee. It is currently run by his son Sridhar Subasri. The committee has been organising Sri Rama Navami celebrations every year without fail, ever since its inception.
