REVIEW FOR BAY OF THE ANGELS - FRENCH FILM BY JACQUES DEMY
Alliance Francaise, together with the Hyderabad Film Club, and with support from the Culture France and The French Embassy, is organising the French Film Festival to mark 50 years of new wave cinema and as part of Bonjour India - Festival of France. The festival is being held from 14th to 17th January, at Prasads IMAX. A total of 8 world-class films will be screened at the festival.
Jacques Demy's "Bay Of The Angels" (Le Baie Des Anges) is the 2nd film to be screened on the 2nd day of the festival. The film stars Jeanne Moreau, Claude Mann and Paul Guers.
Bored with his life as a bank cashier, Jean Fournier (Claude Mann) goes out gambling one night with his friend Caron (Paul Guers), and finds it an exhilarating experience. After arguing with his father, he takes off for the Riviera where he continues to chance his luck at the roulette tables. He doesn’t do too badly at first, playing a cautious game, and winning more than many. Then he meets Jackie (Jeanne Moreau), a peroxide blonde who has abandoned her husband and her young child for the attractions of the casinos. Jean falls helplessly under Jackie’s spell, and soon finds his life spinning dangerously out of control.
Free passes are available one hour before the show at the venue, and 2 passes will be issued per person on a first-come-first-served basis. Please contact Alliance Francaise at 2770-0734 or Bh S S Prakash Reddy of the Hyderabad Film Club at 2373-0841/93910-20243 for further details.
