Crutches - that's what the word Baisakhi means in Punjabi. Now you know why a
guy doing bhangra always has a leg up. Well, bhangra wouldn't have been the culture
statement it is if things were as frivolous as crutches and shaking a leg (literally!).
Baisakhi is harvest time for the Punjabi agrarian and an excuse at any other place
in India to freak out on bhangra pop. Two mixers have offered to help the Hyderabadis
in this grind.
Star DJs Sunny Sarid and Akbar Sami are coming to the city to celebrate Baisakhi at TI, and that means 1,00,000 watts of thunderous sound system, some very 'original' music mixing and another dusk to dawn party.
Sunny Sarid, a renowned celebrity DJ (Indian DMC-DJ Champion), is the head of the DJ Training School for Sound of Music, Delhi. A qualified sound engineer from the School of Audio Engineering, London, he has also under his belt a few successful remix albums like "Club Class", a non-stop dance mix under the Magnasound record label, and "Dance Pool" with Sony Music India.
Sunny Sarid is the only DJ in India to receive "The Rajiv Gandhi Award" for his outstanding performance and achievements. He is also a winner of The 555 DMC World DJ Mixing Championship India 1998 title. He is also the first Indian to participate in the DMC World DJ Mixing Championship at Paris. He has also won the Channel [V] Music Award for the Best Indian Club DJ - 1998. He has also been recognized by OMEGA Watches under the "OMEGA Sign of Excellence" Award for excellence in his field apart.
This evening, Akbar Sami (of Jalwa fame) will accompany Sunny in the enthrallment process. DJ Akbar Sami's entrance into the world of DJs was accidental and he never took any training for it. "If destiny provides you a chance then nobody can stop you," he says.
Some jazzy remixes, cool bhangra and fun are what are promised by these maestros in what will be another dig by our city at having a nightlife that's alive and kicking.
