Chaitanya Art Theatres is organising a stamp release ceremony in memory of the late B N Reddy, a doyen of the Telugu film industry, on 16th Nov, at Ravindra Bharathi. The program will commence at 6pm.
The stamp release was approved by the Government of India, this September. The event will also include a screening of a 30-minute documentary on B N Reddy, created by Janardhan; a music program with songs from B N Reddy's films; and a photo exhibition on his life. The Chief Minister Dr. Y S Rajasekhar Reddy and the Post Master General Usha Chandrasekhar will be the chief guests for the event, with Usha Chandrasekhar releasing the stamp. Other guests will be Dr. Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Dr. Varaprasad Reddy, Latha Reddy and Viswanath Reddy.
Late Bommireddi Narasimha Reddy, born on 16th November 1908, in Cuddapah district, was an early figure in the Telugu cinema industry. He won Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1974 becoming second person to win this award from South India. His 1951 film Malliswari starring N T Rama Rao and Bhanumathi is considered a timeless classic. He directed and produced many hits, including Vande Mataram (1939), Sumangali (1940), Devatha (1941), Swargaseema (1945), Malliswari (1951), Bangaru Papa (1954), Bhagya Rekha (1957), Raja Makutam (1959), Poojaphalam (1964), Bangaru Panjaram (1965) and Rangula Ratnam (1966).
Chaitanya Art Theatres is a cultural organization, founded in 1984, as a platform for upcoming and amateur artists. It has presented over 800 plays so far.
