If one is a guru, the other is a guru of gurus. The month-long dance festival at the Thyagaraja Gana Sabha could not have had a better beginning than with Usha Gayatri and legend Dr. Vempati Chinasatyam.
On the occasion of its 28th anniversary celebrations, Kinnera Arts Theater is celebrating a month-long dance festival starting today at Sri Thyagaraja Gana Sabha. The day's event will start with a welcome dance program "Swarnotsava Andhra Vaibhavam" by Usha Gayatri of Nritya Kinnera.
Usha Gayatri learned Kuchipudi under the tutelage of legends like the late Vedantam Jagannatha Sarma and the late Yelleswarapu Surya Prakasa Sarma. Though Gayatri performed extensively both in India and abroad earlier, she has now settled as a Guru, teaching young budding artistes at her dance school "Nritya Kinnera".
A 35-artist Kuchipudi dance ballet "Arthanareeswaram" by Kuchipudi Art Academy, Chennai, will be the next program. All the 35 artists have been trained by the Padma Bhushan awardee and dance legend, Dr. Vempati Chinasatyam. He will be honoured on the occasion. Arthanareeswaram is about the great relationship and understanding between Lord Shiva & Mata Parvathi.
The day's event will start with lighting of the lamp by M Satyanarayana Rao, Minister for Culture and Sports. He will share the dias with Jnanpith awardee and Padmabhushan Dr. C Narayana Reddy, and V M Rajasekharan, CEO, ITC, Chennai.
