The first time on stage always feels special. Several years later, that is. At the time that it's actually happening, it's just nervousness. Fortunately for these youngsters, their Guru will be right at hand.
Menitha, Shreya and Manitha are presenting their arangetram at the Ravindra Bharathi this Monday. All the three performers are disciples of Chitra Narayanan. They will start the recital with Vatapi Ganapathim, followed by Alaripu, Varnam, Jatiswaram, some Annamacharya keertanas, and finally a Tillana.
Chitra Narayanan is the director of Bharata Natyalaya, which was established in 1947 at Chennai, by her mother and guru Rukmini Srinivasan. The academy has two branches, one in Chennai and the other in Hyderabad, with about 100 students learning Kuchipudi. The academy has given various programs in India and also in the US, but mostly in South India. Chitra Narayanan has received various awards - the Durgabai Deshmukh Award and Natyakala Saraswati, to name a few.
