Sri Sai Nataraja Academy Of Kuchipudi is celebrating its 18th aniversary on 22nd Nov '08. The event will be held at Ravindra Bharathi, and will commence at 6 pm.
6 gurus from different categories of music and dance are to be felicitated - Chinta Adinarayana Sarma (lecturer of Kuchipudi in Music & Dance College), P Uma Sankar (violinist), Subba Lakshmi (Carnatic vocal), Bommarju Panduranga Rao (scholar in the works of Narayana Theertha), Subramanyam (mridangam artist and lecturer in HCU) and Gudibanda Venkata Reddy (founder of Aaradhana Cultural Group).
Also, there is a recital of Annamacharya Kritis, and a Kuchipudi dance performance, by students of the academy. The guests for the evening are Madhusudhan Rao, Director of Doordarshan; Padmabhushan Swapna Sundari, a dancer from Delhi; and Nagaraju Penumitsa, Vice-president of Satyam. The lighting of the lamp will be done by Dr. Uma Rama Rao.
Sri Sai Nataraja Academy of Kuchipudi was established 18 years ago by Rama Devi, a student of Dr. Uma Rama Rao. Rama Devi is a gold medalist in M A, has completed her M Phil., and is pursuing her PhD in Kuchipudi and Kathakali under the guidance of Dr Uma Rama Rao, from the Potti Sriramulu Telugu University. Mahankali Srimannarayana from Bapatla was her first guru, and she subsequently moved on to pursue her masters from the Telugu University.
