The Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival is back this year, and is being organized from 31st Oct to 7th Nov. The festival is conducted by the Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation, which was established by Mohammed Ali Baig, in memory of his father Qadir Ali Baig, a doyen of Hindustani theatre.

The foundation was established in an attempt to revive the Indian theatre scene. On board are danseuse Vani Ganapathy, actresses Rohini Hattangadi, Suhasini Maniratnam and Urmila Matondkar, lyricist Javed Akhtar and director M S Sathyu.

The foundation not only stages plays every month, but also imparts to young talent, basic training in all aspects of theatre. Begum Razia Qadir Ali Baig, wife of Qadir Ali, is the Chairperson of the foundation, Sathyu is the National Director, and Mohammad Ali is the President.

As a part of this theatre festival, on 7th Nov, Anatomy Lesson, a play by Larry Tremblay, is being staged at Ravindra Bharathi. The play features Anne Bressanges from France and Adi Theatre from Delhi. Anatomy Lesson is the story of a brilliant scientist but broken woman, Martha, performing the autopsy of a dead marriage.

Larry Tremblay is a writer, director, actor and specialist in Kathakali. He has published around 20 books, and is one of the Québec's most-produced playwrights. Several of his plays are monologues in which characters confront episodes of profound psychological trauma through a spiral-like process of disavowal and revelation.

Adi Theatre was founded in 1981 as 'Theatre de Poche', by two professors of Alliance Française de Delhi, and is considered one of the oldest theatre groups in Delhi.

The event is being presented by Karvy, and APTDC and ICCR are associate sponsors. The event is supported by SBH & SBI, the official host is HICC, and Deccan Chronicle is the media associate.

Tickets are priced Rs. 100, Rs. 250 & Rs. 500, and are available at Shoe World (Patthargatti), ICCR (Ravindra Bharathi), Music World (Banjara Hills), Novotel (Hitech City), Sangeet Sagar (Paradise Circle), Walden (Begumpet), A A Hussain (Abids) and Ofen (Road No. 10, Banjara Hills).
