R D Burman's actual orchestra is playing in town. It's time for some first-hand reminiscing this 13th at Shilpakala Vedika.
Orion Mobiles is presenting 'An Evening With The Legend - R D Burman', a musical night that features some of the legend's works, on 13th November, at the Shilpakala Vedika auditorium.
The performance will feature a full-fledged live orchestra with 13 members of his band who played for him besides helping him in composing his evergreen melodies. They will also share experiences and reminiscences as they perform some of the most popular Bollywood hit songs of that generation.
The members of this famous orchestra include Manohari Singh (saxophone / English flute), Bhanu Gupta (harmonica/ Spanish guitar), Ramesh Iyer (lead guitar), Franco Vaz (drums), Amrutrao Katkar and Vijay Katkar (percussions), Homi Mullan (duggi and percussions), Ranjit Gazmer (madol), Suraj Sathe (accordian), Kishore Sodha (trumpet), Blasco Monsoret (trombone), Shyamraj (tenor/soprano sax) and Pradipta Sengupta (mandolin), performing live for the first time in Hyderabad.
Some of Pancham's (as R D Burman is fondly called) evergreen hits, including Mere Samne Wali Khidki, Wadiyan Mera Daman, Tum Bin Jaoon Kahan, Yeh Jo Mohabbat Hai, Chingari Koi Bhadke, Raina Beeti Jaye, Beeti Na Bitai Raina, O Mere Dil Ke Chain, O Saathi Chal, Dekha Na Haye Re, and so on, will be sung by Sudesh Bhosle along with Shailaja.
R D Burman was the only son of Sachin Dev Burman, another music legend. He got his break as a music director in Mehmood's Chhote Nawab (1961). He was the most popular composer in 1970s, and together with Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeskar, gave some of the biggest hits in the history of Bollywood.
