The Abhinaya Darpana Arts Academy is presenting a recital of Kuchipudi, and also Simhanandini, Mayura Kautvam and Mahalakshmi Udbhavam (the last three are Alaya Sampradaya Nrityas), on 4th August, at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha.
Students of Abhinaya Darpana Arts Academy, M S Ramanujam, Pavani, Maheshwari, Rekha and Bhargavi, will start the recital with a Vinayaka Kautvam, followed by Dashavataralu, Annamacharya Keertana Tandanana Ahi and finally the Alaya Sampradaya Nrityas. The orchestra for the recital is by D S V Sastry with the vocals, Voleti Rangamani with the nattuvangam, Rajagopalachari on the mridangam, Muralidharachari on the violin and Venkatesh on the flute.
Alaya Sampradaya Nritya is an interesting dance form where the dancer draws pictures of Goddess Kali's lion or Kumaraswamy's peacock or Goddess Lakshmi's aasan (the lotus), while dancing on the rangoli lying scattered on the stage. Tonite, the recital comprises of Simhanandani (two simhams or lions), Mayura Kautvam (2 mayuras or peacocks) and Mahalakshmi Udbhavam (one padmam or lotus), and will be done by M S Ramanujam, Rekha, Bhargavi, Pavani and Maheshwari.
Abhinaya Darpana Arts Academy was established in 1981, by Voleti Rangamani, a senior Kuchipudi dancer who has revived the centuries-old traditional dance of alaya sampradaya nrityas. She is the daughter and disciple of renowned Kuchipudi dancer-teacher, Late C R Acharyulu. She learnt Kuchipudi from Vedantam Prahlada Sarma and has breathed life into the dying art of alaya sampradaya nrityas. She has demonstrated this art many places in India and abroad.
