The heartbreaking love saga of Tumhari Amrita continues here too. But this time it's Zulfi Vs Soniya.
In order to seek funds for its various projects for underprivileged members of the society, Mitr, together with Star Ventures, stage the much applauded play, "Aapki Soniya" on 17th September at Shilpa Kala Vedika.
In Tumhari Amrita, the set is unadorned with the two actors, Amrita (Shabana Azmi) and Zulfikar Haider (Farooq Sheikh) seated a short distance from each other facing the audience, reading out letters in turn. This saga continues continues well past Amrita’s death, in Aapki Soniya.
This time around, the letters are exchanged between Zulfi and Soniya (Sonali Bendre) who is Amrita’s lovely daughter. If the prequel was a story of unsuccessful love, this is a story of futile hatred, and an ailing Zulfi is once again made to do some deep soul searching.
Soniya, who is brought up single-handedly by her inebriate French father has led a miserable childhood devoid of love and belonging. She holds Zulfi directly responsible for her mother abstinence throughout her childhood years. She spits out venom in her letters to Zulfi, who is totally ignorant of her existence.
Can Zulfi be the soothing balm for Soniya’s scars? Or will her spit-fire burn him for his guilt? Be there to find out.
The play is written by Javed Siddique, produced by Lubna Arif and directed by Salim Arif. The entry is thru donor passess in denominations of Rs. 2,000, Rs. 1,500, Rs. 1,000, Rs. 500 and Rs. 250 per head.
