A dance performance pays a tribute to Mahakavi Sri Sri, on the 30th of November. It is being conducted by Sri KRKM Memorial Academy of Fine Arts, in collaboration with Alliance Francaise of Hyderabad and Department Of Culture, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh. The event will be held at Ravindra Bharati, at 6:30pm.
This dance ballet is being organized on the occasion of the centenary celebrations of the poet Sri Sri. Sri Sri was not only a poet, but also a writer, lyricist and progressive thinker. He changed the rules of ancient poetry, and also left a humongous impact on today’s Telugu literature.
Srirangam Srinivasa Rao (1910 - 1983), popularly known as Sri Sri, was well-versed in French literature, and was influenced by several French poets and writers. He translated the works of several French poets, including François Villon, Paul Eluard and Charles Baudelaire.
For this centenary celebration, the poem "Ballade des dames du temps jadis" (that was translated by Sri Sri) by François Villon, and other poems by Sri Sri, including Maha Prasthanam and Khadga Srusthi, are being adapted into a dance recital performed by Telugu dancers from Koka Vijayalakshmi's dance troupe.
The poems contain several themes - children, women, the poor, labourers, lovers and patriotism. About 30 artistes are participating in the dance ballet. The dance sequences will be choreographed in Kuchipudi, folk and contemporary styles, and the presentation will include a few drama sequences as well. The ballet has a duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes. The program includes a digital presentation of MahaKavi Sri Sri, and a commentary in between.
The event was conceptualized by Dr. A B K Prasad (Former Chairman, Official Language Commission, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh). The ballet was choreographed by Koka Vijayalakshmi, and the music was composed by D S V Sastry.
